On Saturday we took a 2 hour road trip to Alma, Michigan to see PostSecret Live. "PostSecret is an ongoing community mail art project, created by Frank Warren in 2005, in which people mail their secrets anonymously on a homemade postcard." He posts secrets once a week on the largest, advertisement free blog in the world! I have always enjoyed reading Sunday's secrets, then refreshing the page to see the visitor count at the bottom change to see how many strangers read the secrets with me. Frank is also an inspirational speaker of sorts, traveling to colleges and encouraging students to share their own secrets aloud, which helps them discover they are more like each other than they thought. He also has a great Ted Talk I would recommend!
I have been a huge fan of the site since the beginning. I am drawn in not just by the secrets, but by the creativity of the senders. Each postcard is unique, from hand written to a collage of magazine cutouts. Frank said one of the strangest he recieved was a potato! At the event we were each given a blank postcard to decorate and sent in! I can't wait to make mine!
New secrets post every Sunday, check them out at postsecret.com.
